The Barnes and Noble location in West Hartford, CT has been engaging in youth discrimination by displaying the sign “unaccompanied minors may be asked to leave.”
Bookstores are places of learning and exploration, where no minors should be told to leave but instead encouraged to enter. In April, we reached out to Barnes and Noble corporate about this issue and, according to them, our issue still has not been resolved. In our extensive research, there are no local or state laws that mandate such a measure to be taken by a bookstore and there are no age-restricted products like lottery tickets, cigarettes, or alcohol being sold at this Barnes and Noble location.
We continue to pressure Barnes and Noble, and in particular, their location in West Hartford, to make the right decision and come out against this youth discrimination and reverse their decision to post such discriminatory signs.
Hold the fudge up, where the heck is there a B+N that sells cigarettes?
