VOLUNTEERING
We are a youth-led organization that focuses on promoting and expanding the rights of young people in schools and their communities. Our unique non-hierarchical volunteer program is designed for individuals, of any age, who want to help us fight ageism throughout the United States. Since we are an all-volunteer organization, you will get to work alongside the rest of NYRA as an equal and will have the opportunity to lead your own projects with the full support of a national organization behind you.
As a volunteer you will be able to use and develop your skills in a variety of areas including research, writing, promotion, and outreach. Volunteers can either work independently or as part of a team and have the opportunity to focus on issues that are important to them. Volunteers are able to work from home and set their own schedule. Here are several of the projects volunteers can help with:
- Writing blog articles analyzing current events from a youth rights perspective
- Fundraising
- Joining and forming NYRA Nodes
- Managing our social media accounts
- Sending out our newsletter
- Designing issue-specific leaflets and other merchandise
INTERNSHIPS
NYRA also operates an internship program that allows interns to select and lead key projects in any of our focus areas or design their own projects under supervision. Our interns have used our program for academic credit, volunteer service hours, or for just gaining valuable experience. Our internships are unpaid and operate throughout the year with flexible start and end dates.
EXECUTIVE TEAM / BOARD OF DIRECTORS
NYRA’s Board of Directors and Executive Team are made up of our most committed volunteers.
Each Executive Team member is responsible for leading one of our Teams. This includes conducting monthly team meetings, ensuring all tasks are assigned and completed, supervising other volunteers, and submitting a monthly report to our Board of Directors. The Board of Directors provides oversight to the organization and makes decisions regarding our mission, goals and strategic planning.
Once you have been a part of our volunteer program for several months, the Board or Executive Team may contact you to schedule an interview.
