The North Dakota chapter for the National Youth Rights Association has announced its intention to lower the voting age to 16 in the state by 2004. Johnathan McClure, NYRA-ND Treasurer is in charge of the effort to gather 25,688 valid signatures to put the measure on the ballot in 2004. This will be the first attempt to lower a state’s voting age below 18 by referendum in American history. The chapter is forming a bipartisan organizing committee, and has begun contacting members of the North Dakota legislature for support. This campaign is an opportunity to make history and attract some nationwide media attention for NYRA and the cause of youth rights. This effort won’t be easy or cheap, if you are interested in providing some support please contact Johnathan McClure at: johnathanmcclure@hotmail.com, for details, check out the NYRA-ND page.
